Jovia Programme Wins Prestigious Global Award

The Jovia Programme under Apps and Girls won a top award at the 2023 WSIS Forum in Geneva, recognizing its impact in closing the digital gender divide through ICT and entrepreneurship training.

The Jovia Programme, a flagship initiative under Apps and Girls, has been recognized with a prestigious award at the 2023 World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) Forum held in Geneva, Switzerland. This global recognition highlights the program's significant impact in closing the digital gender divide.

The WSIS Prizes are among the most prestigious international awards recognizing excellence in implementing projects and initiatives that leverage the power of ICT to advance sustainable development. The Jovia Programme stood out among hundreds of submissions from around the world.

The program has successfully trained thousands of young women across Tanzania in ICT skills and entrepreneurship, enabling them to start their own businesses, secure employment in the tech sector, and become change agents in their communities.

Key achievements of the Jovia Programme include establishing computer labs in underserved areas, providing intensive digital literacy training, mentoring young women entrepreneurs, and creating a supportive network of female tech professionals.

This recognition at the global stage validates the approach taken by Apps and Girls and demonstrates that community-driven, gender-focused tech education can create lasting change. The award ceremony was attended by delegates from over 150 countries.

Apps and Girls founder expressed gratitude for this recognition, noting that it belongs to all the young women who have participated in the program and the communities that have supported this mission of digital empowerment.
