Since 2013, Apps and Girls alumni have gone on to launch startups, pursue higher education in STEM, lead social impact initiatives, and build careers in technology and innovation across Africa and beyond.
Success Stories
Meet Our Alumni

Modesta joined Apps and Girls at age 15 while studying at Kisutu Girls Secondary School. She launched Our Cries, a web platform enabling students to report harassment on public transit, which later evolved into Our Voices Against Harassment (OVAH).
Impact: Through OVAH, Modesta has employed over 5 people and impacted more than 7,000 students across Tanzania. She also served as an Alumni Engagement Officer at Apps and Girls and mentored young girls in launching tech ventures.

African Leadership University

Balbina joined Apps and Girls during her A-Level studies and launched Huduma Smart, a digital platform connecting domestic workers with fair employment opportunities.
Impact: Huduma Smart has empowered over 140 domestic workers and employed more than 100 workers across Tanzania.

Beldi Zikudia
Student & Founder, Agrodefy
Beldi joined Apps and Girls at age 13 and later represented Tanzania in the First Global Robotics Competition. She founded Agrodefy to help farmers address yield fluctuations using smart technology.
Impact: Agrodefy’s Agrodefier device analyzes soil moisture and pH, providing farmers with real-time insights via mobile technology.
Arusha High School (PCM)

Mittina Akampa
STEM Advocate & Innovator
Mittina developed the Sparkles Vending Machine, a prototype providing affordable sanitary pads to girls in rural schools.
Impact: Her innovation addresses school dropouts, early marriages, and poor academic performance linked to period poverty.

Lisa Michael Jones
STEM Researcher & Developer
Lisa created SmartShamba, a platform connecting farmers with agricultural experts, and later built AI-powered soil analysis devices.
Impact: Her innovations supported smallholder farmers and earned her a scholarship to the African Leadership Academy.

Godbright Nickson
Software Engineer & Researcher
Godbright founded Robotics for Africa, combining drones and ground robots to improve agricultural efficiency.
Impact: His work spans healthcare, education, and trade platforms across Tanzania.
Carnegie Mellon University Africa (MSc IT – Data Science)

Julieth Sewava
Biotechnology & Bioinformatics Student
Julieth developed FoodHub and ePharma, tackling nutrition and counterfeit medication challenges.
Impact: She represented Tanzania in First Global Robotics competitions and serves on innovation leadership committees.

Winnie Godlove
Social Entrepreneur & Donor Relations Officer
Winnie founded Fanikisha Mama to raise awareness on obstetric fistula and empower survivors economically.
Impact: Educated over 300 individuals and supported female entrepreneurs through incubation programs.
